Understanding that our computer systems are at risk from malware when we connect to a network or add an external storage device to our system allows us to add in the protection that reduces the risk damage to data. It is important to remember that we can never be 100% protected from malware but that our actions as users are often the main reason why our systems become infected.

However, this is not always possible as we receive many emails from a number of different people but look perfectly safe. The second layer of protection would be to add antivirus that scans all new software that is opened on the computer before installation. In order for this software to be effective, it is important that the antivirus software is updated on a regular basis to allow it to detect new viruses which are created daily.
